Sam Arnold promoted to full roster

Oxford City Stars today confirmed that they had promoted Sam Arnold to the full squad from their alternate list for the remainder of the season. Sam was brought into the squad as injury cover for the Peterborough Islanders game back in September and impressed the coaches with a series of a solid performances.

Sam, a product of the Stars junior system played his final year as an Under 18 last season averaging just under a point a game. He has played up to the ENL2 side in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons playing seven games a season and picking up valuable experience in that team.

Week 7 in review

It was a weekend of high drama and controversy in the National Ice Hockey League with five matches played over the weekend which over all saw the Stars drop from 4th to 6th place in the league.

Stars go down 6-3 to Bracknell in opening NIHL Cup home match

Oxford City Stars went down in their opening home match to Bracknell Hornets in the NIHL Cup 6-3, with two goals from Dax Hedges and one by Joe Edwards against the current NIHL1 League leaders.

The game started fifteen minutes late due to a rink lighting issue however, the game started at a frenetic pace from both the sides. It was a competitive start to the match with both sides looking at create chances and Oxford had two in the opening passages of play from Darren Elliott shooting narrowly wide and James Clarke forcing Adam Marashi to make a glove save top right.

Stars, Plastic Head Music Distribution agree major sponsorship deal

Oxford City Stars were today delighted to announce an agreement with Plastic Head Music Distribution Ltd (PHD) to become the main sponsor of the club for the 2012/13 season. PHD will take pride of place on the front of the new jersey which will be unveiled on Sunday at the home game against Bracknell Hornets on Sunday, 6:15pm at Oxford Ice Rink.

Rink Refurbishment Update

For those of you that haven't been to the rink since the last game there have been some changes to the ice rink that we would like to clarify:

The entrance in use for the match will be the stairs just past the ramp giving entrance on the top floor at centre ice. This will be clearly marked on the day. Disabled supporters should use the temporary new entrance and the ground floor and will have access to the balcony area via the lift.

Oxford City Stars take back to the ice after a early season two week break to face Bracknell Hornets in the NIHL Cup. The break couldn’t have happened at a better time for the Stars after picking up some early season injuries. Jack Maisey is still missing from the squad, although he returned to training this week  after breaking two collarbones in the opening day win over Swindon NIHL Wildcats.

Oxford City Stars Ltd announce boardroom changes

Oxford City Stars Ltd. would like to confirm some recent changes in the boardroom of the company.
Over the last few weeks both Steve Lindley and John Harrison resigned from their Directorships of Oxford City Stars Ltd in order to concentrate on their incredibly time-consuming roles of Chair and Vice-Chairman of Oxford City Ice Hockey Club (Juniors). This left Elaine Sutcliffe as the sole remaining Director of the Club.

Oxford City Stars enjoyed their second of two weeks off in what was a reasonably quiet week in the National Ice Hockey League Division 2 (South). Stars remained in fourth place with a record of two wins an a draw holding games in hand over the three sides ahead of them.

Boyce records 32-shot shutout in 2-0 victory

Oxford Midnight Stars recorded a famous victory over the Invicta Dynamics with a 2-0 victory over the Kent outfit to jump into the second place spot in the league. Jo Boyce was the hero of the hour, posting a 32 shot shutout to deny the Dynamics at every turn while Sophia Pratelli and Linda Pearson grabbed only two goals in the match.
