Oxford City Stars open their home campaign with the visit from the Invicta Mustangs, who the starts recently faced away from home and drew 3-3, making it the third consecutive three-all draw between the sides. Stars will see the return of Jacob Smith to the squad after missing Sunday's game through injury. Joe Oliver will face a late fitness test after missing both of last weekend games after picking up a knock in the 10-6 away win at Swindon, and Darryl Jones replaces Jeff Sykora as the non-EIHA trained played for this weekend as Jeff is unavailable.

For the Stars the recent weekend is likely to have been one of the most tiring in the whole season with the two away games with the trip to Peterborough in a 4-3 victory in the cup and drawing 3-3 with Invicta Mustangs in the league.

Stars tie Mustangs 3-3 after late Alan Green goal

Oxford City Stars salvaged a point away after a late hattrick goal from Alan Green to tie the match 3-3.

The Stars had the best of the opening minutes with Alan Green having the best chance shooting narrowly wide from the high slot but overall it was a nervous, chippy start to the match with neither side imposing their authority.

Stars defeat Islanders 4-3 to open the NIHL Cup

Oxford City Stars produced a solid road victory defeating Peterborough Islanders 4-3 with goals from Alan Green (2), Joe Edwards and Jacob Smith.

Allan Stansfield took an early penalty for interference and Islanders took the early lead on the powerplay to give Peterborough the early lead. Oxford then went on the powerplay after a boarding infringement and the stars moved to cycle the puck with Nick Oliver passing to Darren Elliott before Alan Green put away in front to coolly slot the puck away in the bottom right.

This was a solid opening performance by a squad which includes recent signings Nathon Lowe, Conor Bissell, Kieran Wilson, Charlie Young and Oliver Brookwell. Mac Coppock and Harry Harrison added to squad strength from the U14's.

Week 2 – Review

With the season just getting started all eyes turned to Swindon for the start of Oxford's league campaign and Stars ran out 10-6 winners after a devastating second period blew away the Wildcats in an impressive fashion. Elsewhere in the league, Invicta Mustangs beat Romford Fury 9-6 and Wightlink Tigers put Lee Valley to the sword in a 11-3 win. Goalscoring has been incredibly high in the NIHL2 South early on this season with games averaging around 17 goals a game.
