Swindon 6 - 10 Oxford, Stars crush Wildcats in opening day win

Oxford City Stars bounced back from an early Wildcats goal to beat the Swindon NIHL Wildcats 10-6 with goals from Darren Elliott (2), Stuart Widdows (2), Josh Oliver (2), Alan Green, Sam Broughton, Joe Edwards and Joe Oliver. After a tense first period, the Stars ran away with the game and showed real quality and class to seal their first two points of the season.

Oxford City Stars would like to take the opportunity to clarify the situation with regards to Oxford Ice Rink's refurbishment. Since the start of the summer, we have been advised there would be a renovation of certain parts of the ice rink, specifically the upstairs seating areas and the creation of a cafe. This work was due to take place during the off-season and because to the uncertainty of the exact timings, the club decided to inform the EIHA of our inability to play home fixtures until the weekend commencing 22nd September to give us leeway.

Junior Fixtures Released

The fixtures for the 2012/13 English Ice Hockey Association Junior leagues have recently been released with Oxford continuing to put sides in all of the age groups from U10 to U18.

The Under 10’s this season has moved to a cross-ice format, with each ‘match’ consisting of a four-team mini tournament played across the width of the ice. Full details of the new format are available @ http://www.eiha.co.uk/Leagues/Juniors/XICE.aspx

Stars capture Alan Green and re-sign Jack Maisey

Oxford City Stars today pulled off a transfer coup with the signing of Alan Green from the Chelmsford Chieftains while also signing Jack Maisey for his first full season of Senior hockey for the Stars 2012/13 National Ice Hockey League Division 2 campaign. These two quality signings will bolster the forward lines and leaves nearly complete, with the Stars anticipating one more announcement before the start of the season.

Goaltending Trio sign up for the Stars

Oxford City Stars today announced their goaltending trio for the 2012/13 season with the re-signings of James Skaife and Ricky Young and the signing of Andy Peterson from Oxford Vikings Ice Hockey Club. With three netminders signed, it will give the Stars flexibility to cope with injuries as well as introduce a genuine competition for which player gets to start in each game.

Hedges, Jones, Widdows all return

Oxford City Stars continued to strengthen at both ends of the ice with the return of Dax Hedges, South African junior international Darryl Jones and Stu Widdows.
Dax Hedges came straight out of the Stars junior system and was thrown into the deep end back in the 2009/10 season when he was picked up as a promising junior for the ENL1 side. Since then he’s established himself as a versatile and powerful forward. In January of the 2011/12 season he signed for the Streatham Redskins and played 13 games for them helping them retain their ENIHL1 league status.
