Stars league status still uncertain for 2013/14 season

Oxford City Stars are still waiting to confirm their league status for the 2013/14 after the league meeting on Saturday. As confirmed in our previous announcement, Stars have stated that they wish to remain in NIHL2 this season to allow a further year of rebuilding and consolidation.

Unfortunately, this summer has seen a great amount of uncertainty surrounding other teams due to rink refurbishments and closures. As it stands the make-up of both NIHL1 and NIHL2 is undecided and therefore EIHA officials were not able to confirm where Stars will play for the upcoming season.

Oxford City Stars Supporters Club AGM - Sunday 30th June

The Oxford City Stars Supporters Club Committee are pleased to confirm that they will be holding their AGM on Sunday 30th June 2013. The meeting will take place at Oxford Ice Rink at 6:15pm and is open for public attendance.

This years’ meeting will take a reflective look at the previous year and also look forward to the new 2013/14 season. As with previous years, motions for debate are invited as well as nominations for Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee positions.

Stars request to remain in NIHL2 for 2013/14 season

Oxford City Stars would like to confirm their intentions regarding the 2013/14 season. A few days ago, club officials informed the English Ice Hockey Association that as per the National Ice Hockey League Rules of Competition, they do not wish to promoted and prefer to remain in NIHL2 (South) for the upcoming season.

This has not been an easy decision, so we would like to explain the issues regarding this and why we have chosen to in NIHL2..

Stick and Puck this Sunday!

Want to try out Ice Hockey? Stick and Puck is the ideal place to do this for 6-16's year olds. All kit and equipment is provided and trained coaches are on the ice all times to show and teach the game.

Sessions start at 4:15pm and are FREE OF CHARGE. If you plan to attend, ensure that you arrive at least 15 minutes before to allow time for kitting up.

Stars appoint James Schall as Head of Sponsorship and Marketing

Oxford City Stars are delighted to confirm that they have strengthened their back office team with the appointment of former Stars defenceman James Schall, who iced for the club in the late 80's. James will join the management committee for the Stars as Head of Sponsorship and Marketing with immediate effect.

James is based in Oxfordshire and is a Director at Videogames publisher SEGA. He still plays ice hockey at recreational level and is a member of the Oxford Shooting Stars team.

Stars defeat Bristol 4-3 to win league by seven points

Oxford City Stars completed their league campaign with a 4-3 win at home to Bristol Pitbulls with a hattrick from Darren Elliott and a goal from Joe Edwards. The result meant that Stars won the division by seven points, from second place Wightlink Tigers.

Summer League and Trials Information

Oxford City Stars are delighted to confirm the details of their 2013 Summer League and Trials process. Based on feedback we have decided to expand the Summer League which successfully ran in Summer 2012.

Summer League will now run for six weeks, Wednesday 29th May to Wednesday 3rd July. The format will see the players who attend split into three different teams. On each game day each team will play two games against the two other teams for a total of 12 short games over the six weeks.

Club Statement regarding the Stars clinching the league title

Oxford City Stars would like to pay tribute to their players, coaches and off-ice officials as the Stars have won the city's first senior league ice hockey title since the 1995/96 season.

The entire squad should be praised for their efforts. Their work ethic has been fantastic and the team have produced some crucial performances at key points in the season. At the start of the season, it took a little while for the lines to gel but after a while the team started to click and the players deserve tremendous credit for their thirteen game winning streak.
